Roger Hodgson por tercera vez en la Mitad del Mundo

Al igual que John Lennon y Paul McCartney inmortalizaron a The Beatles con sus creaciones, Rick Davies y Roger Hodgson hicieron lo mismo con Supertramp. A casi 30 años de su separación, vanos son los intentos por un reencuentro con los integrantes de la formación original. Los excompañeros no tienen la menor intención de verse de nuevo. Hodgson, el exvocalista de esta banda, interpreta todavía aquellas canciones que para Oswaldo Valencia, Mr. Soul Train, son un rayo de luz en el mundo.

De su extensa discografía, el comunicador destaca dos temas: Breakfast in America, nombre de su gira mundial y del álbum de 1979, y Lord is it mine.

“Son melodías preciosas, ricas en instrumentación y armonías, características propia de los ingleses, quienes marcaron hegemonía en la conceptualización del rock”.

Oswaldo Valencia dice que Hodgson es uno de los artistas más completos que haya escuchado y lamenta que no toque con los miembros fundadores.

“Me molesta que la consideren como una urbe que solo disfruta del reggaeton y el merengue de Wilfrido Vargas. No a todos nos agradan estos ritmos, pero acepto que existe una tendencia, aún así hay que arriesgarse con lo que consideramos erróneamente predecible”.

Cuando Loly escucha It’s raining again, la nostalgia se apodera de ella. El emblemático track del álbum de 1982 Famous last words es sinónimo de la adolescencia que marcó una etapa importante en su vida.

“En una época donde no existía la tecnología de hoy ni las redes sociales, vivíamos un acercamiento real y más puro entre personas que se congregaban en un almacén de discos para adquirir el acetato de moda. Yo llamaba a la estación de radio para solicitar al locutor o DJ que programe mi tema favorito para grabarlo en un casete y sin interrupciones. Miro el vídeo de It’s raining again y me transporto, revivo inmediatamente estas escenas, es mi ‘trip’ cálido e irrepetible”.

El empresario Sixto Eguiguren asistirá por tercera ocasión al concierto de Roger Hodgson en Quito.

 “Él es la esencia de Supertramp, un grupo tradicional, de aquellos que aunque pasen los años su música es gloriosa y no morirá porque llena de emociones por su filosofía y rock progresivo. Es similar a Pink Floyd, pero con un estilo más suave. Breakfast in America es mi favorita, esa canción encierra el concepto de la banda, es un invitado de lujo para nuestro país”.

La cantautora Verónica Baidal solo tiene un apelativo para Hodgson, “genial”.

 “The logical song para mí es perfecta y él es un cantante perfecto. Cada nota que él interpreta está perfectamente afinada. Es increíble este hombre, después de décadas su voz está intacta y es un verdadero instrumento”.

La capital ecuatoriana será la primera ciudad del tour Breakfast in America en este lado del continente.
