"ROGER HODGSON ABRE LAS PUERTAS A SUPERTRAMP" Publicado en el diario peruano "CORREO" 20 de Enero de 2009 Cantante, compositor y arreglista, el optimista y espiritual músico británico Roger Hodgson, ex vocalista de la legendaria banda Supertramp, reconoce el interés de sus fans peruanos por verlo de nuevo. Con ellos se reencontrará el 18 de febrero en la Explanada del Estadio Monumental. PREGUNTA: ¿Conoces el Perú? ROGER: Estuve en Lima en 1998, un excelente show, nunca como turista. No tuve mucho tiempo para ver Machu Picchu y otras ciudades, pero me enamoré del Perú y de su gente, hay mucha magia en tu país. Sé que disfrutaré estando allá de nuevo, aunque esta vez la agenda está bastante apretada para conocer lugares. Siempre me pedían que regrese y me demoré 10 años en volver. Tomé el camino más largo para regresar. PREGUNTA: De acuerdo con las críticas y tus seguidores, suenas mucho mejor que cuando estabas en Supertramp... ROGER: Mi voz es buena (RISAS), y estoy de acuerdo porque la voz es el reflejo de lo que hay dentro y yo me siento maravilloso, feliz, esperanzado... Disfruto de mí mismo, amo las canciones que he cantado tanto tiempo atrás. Soy un hombre muy afortunado de poder transmitir lo que mi corazón dicta. PREGUNTA: ¿E igual de agradecido por haber integrado Supertramp? ROGER: Ser agradecido con la vida es el secreto, y las puertas siempre han estado abiertas para volver y hacer algo de nuevo con Rick Davies. Hemos hablado un par de veces sobre eso y nada ha pasado hasta ahora. Yo tuve un acercamiento, pero él no estaba muy interesado en volver atrás. Pero, ¿quién sabe lo que puede suceder en el futuro? El 2010, quizás, no lo sé. Lo cierto es que la gente que viene a mi show experimenta las canciones, mi voz, como en Supertramp. PREGUNTA: Tiene muchos éxitos resucitados por otros artistas, como Goo Goo Dolls o James Blunt. ¿Cuál podría ser otro hit de las decenas de canciones inéditas que ha compuesto? ROGER: Bueno, Gym Class Heroes tiene un éxito tremendo con "Cupid´s Chokehold" / "Breakfast in America". Y bueno, pienso que "Dreamer" sería otro hit en algún punto, tanto que he estado pensando en rehacerlo yo mismo (RISAS). También "Lovers in the wind". PREGUNTA: Sé que ha contribuido en producciones musicales, ¿hay algún plan para repetir la experiencia? ROGER: Disfruto hacerlo, pero lo que realmente adoro es tocar canciones que hagan feliz a la gente. El show en Lima será inusual porque voy con toda una banda, pero en Europa suelo hacer shows íntimos. PREGUNTA: Necesitó 10 años para reponerse de un accidente en sus muñecas. ¿Cómo pudo sobrellevarlo? ROGER: Cuando los médicos me dijeron que no podía recuperarme, una parte de mí no quería creerlo. Fue muy deprimente, pero decidí que eso no era lo que quería y ese día decidí cambiar mi vida. Tomó muchísimo trabajo, muchísima fe y esperanza basada en que volvería a tocar de nuevo porque la música es un regalo. Definitivamente cambió mi vida, me devolvió la paz en mí mismo como hombre. Me di cuenta que sólo yo puedo controlar mi vida. Y, si le pones atención, te das cuentas que la vida siempre trata de decirte algo muy importante, aunque algunas veces las respuestas no son tan obvias y te toman más tiempo encontrarlas. PREGUNTA: Yendo por esa misma línea espiritual, ¿cuál es su gran resolución para este año? ROGER: Oh, es una buena pregunta. Para mí es dar algo que haga feliz, tocar música, dar algo en retribución, porque hay mucha gente que no la está pasando bien, que lucha entre sí. PREGUNTA: Y después de esta conversación, sería descabellado preguntarle, ¿qué hubiera hecho de no ser artista? ROGER: ¡Oh Dios!, pues no lo sé... Me gustaría vivir entre la naturaleza o tener hijos (RISAS), quizás porque me gusta la naturaleza, los árboles, los animales y los niños. QUESTION: Many critics and fans say that your sound is now better than it was when you were in Supertramp... ROGER: My voice is in good shape (LAUGHS). I agree with them because my voice is a reflection of what there is inside me, and now I feel happy, hopeful, wonderful... I'm enjoying myself and I love the songs I wrote so many years ago. I am a lucky man who can transmit what his heart dictates. QUESTION: Are you grateful for have been part of Supertramp? ROGER: Being grateful for life is my secret, and my door has always been open to work again with Rick Davies. We talked a couple of times about it, but still nothing has happened. I approached him, but he wasn't interested in it. But who knows what will happen in the future? Maybe in 2010, I don't know. The only thing I know is that the people who attend my shows enjoy my songs and my voice as they did when I was in Supertramp. QUESTION: Many of your hits have been revived by other artists, like Goo Goo Dolls and James Blunt. Which of the lots of songs you wrote do you think of as another new hit? ROGER: Well, Gym Class Heroes also had a big success with "Cupid´s Chokehold" / "Breakfast in America". I think "Dreamer" could be another hit in the future. Even I've thinking about myself recording it again (LAUGHS). And "Lovers in the wind" too. QUESTION: I know that you have contributed to some musical productions. Are you going to do it again? ROGER: I enjoy doing it, but what I actually love is playing songs that make people be happy. My show in Lima will be unusual because I'll perform there with a band, but in Europe I use to play intimate shows. QUESTION: You spent ten years recovering from an injury in your wrists...How did you bear it? ROGER: When the doctors said I would never recover completely, one part of me couldn't believe it. It was very depressing for me. It was very hard and I needed lots of work, faith and hope, but I wanted to play again because music is my greatest gift. I changed my life and I found my inner peace as a man. I realized that I am the only person who can control my own life. If you pay attention to it, you realize that life is always trying to say important things to you, even when sometimes the answers are not clear and you need more time to find them. QUESTION: Talking about spiritual things, what is your main goal for this year? ROGER: Oh, it's a good question. My goal is playing music to make the people be happy, because many people are going through a bad patch or fighting other people. QUESTION: And after this conversation, can I ask you who would have you been if you weren't an artist? ROGER: Oh God! I don't know... But I think I'd live in nature and I'd have some children (LAUGHS), maybe because I love nature, trees, animals and kids. |
