Roger Hodgson Honored for Support of Cleaning for a Reason

Cleaning for a ReasonRoger Hodgson gives more than a little bit.
To the world, Roger Hodgson is one of the most gifted composers, songwriters, and lyricists of our time.

To the foundation, he’s someone who knows the difference one person or one organization can make when you just “give a little bit.” In 2012, Hodgson bestowed the rights to his song aptly named “Give a Little Bit” to Cleaning For A Reason, the foundation that makes a difference for women with cancer through free house cleanings.

Cleaning for a ReasonIn Hodgson’s own words, “It’s just one of those  songs that has a profound yet beautiful and simple message–’give a little bit’ and show you care. I know it is giving to others that makes me happy. If we could all ‘give a little bit’ each day, we would make the world a better place.”

"Give a Little Bit" Scores in Super Bowl Spot for Coca-Cola Voted #1 on NFL.com!

Day of Giving

In the wake of Super Bowl XLVII, some will remember which commercials were the best as much as the game itself.  With this year’s ads prompting emotions ranging from laughter to tears, prime among them was a 30-second spot for Coca-Cola utilizing the song “Give a Little Bit” as its soundtrack – a song written and composed by Roger Hodgson and originally released in 1977 by Supertramp, the iconic rock band he co-founded. This new recording is Hodgson's latest version of his classic hit, which is now available on
iTunes.  His latest release Classics Live can be found on iTunes as well.

The Coca-Cola “Security Cameras” Super Bowl ad, which combined the sounds of “Give a Little Bit” with images of people engaging in acts of generosity and goodwill as captured by security cameras around the world, was the most watched post-game commercial on the NFL’s own website, with views exceeding a quarter-million.   The spot prompted Hodgson to comment, "The images in the ad go well with the meaning of my song.  It's just one of those songs that has a profound yet beautiful and simple message – ‘give a little bit’ and show you care. I know it is giving to others that makes me happy. If we could all ‘give a little bit’ each day, we would make the world a better place.”

Mentoring the Canadian Idols

"One of the ways to get back Home to our hearts is through the gift of giving back, giving our love & care to others."

In true keeping with the message of his timeless hit “Give a Little Bit”, Roger Hodgson is giving back.  He is always doing service in different forms and on the Canadian tour he’s been doing it in the form of mentoring. After his performance and mentoring on the Canadian Idol show in August, Roger was deeply touched by the young hopefuls and realized the challenges that lay ahead for them. He invited several of them, whose hometowns he was touring in, to come for continued mentoring and to spend the day with him and watch and learn and join him as a special guest on stage. They were all very grateful and learned so much.

Honoring the Big Brothers / Big Sisters organizations

Through his experiences of mentoring, Roger has really been appreciating the value of mentoring, and has also been inviting people from the Big Brothers / Big Sisters organization across Canada to come for free as his guest to many of his shows.
He has been honoring and appreciating people who are giving their time to mentor and support our young people who really need it.

So send a Smile and show you care…

“Give a Little Bit” Lyrics

Give a little bit

Give a little bit of your love to me

Give a little bit

I'll give a little bit of my love

To you

There's so much that we need to share

Send a smile and show you care

I gave a little bit

I gave a little bit of my life for you

So give a little bit

Give a little bit of your time to me

See the man with the lonely eyes

Oh take his hand, you'll be surprised

Give a little bit

Give a little bit of your love to me

I'll give a little bit

I’ll give a little bit of my life for you

Now's the time that we need to share

So find yourself, we're on our way back home

Oh we’re going home

Don't you need, don’t you need to get back home

Oh yeah, we going back

We got to get a feeling

   got to get a feeling

   got to get a feeling

We’ve come a long way

Oh what a long ride

We’ve come a long way

Oh can we sing it tonight

“Never underestimate the difference a smile from the heart can make in this world.

“The Tsunami tragedy has brought up a lot of feelings for all of us. One of the ways I have found to help with fear and sadness is to share a smile and show that I care.

“When I do this from my heart to people I meet in my life, I feel better, happier and stronger inside.

“For those who can, now is the time to reach out and give of our time at one of the local organizations in town. And also know that simply smiling and showing that we care makes a big difference in the world. Lots of kids are showing up and helping in many different ways.

“Giving a little bit of our love, sharing a smile, and showing that we care is a basic teaching in life. And I believe even those that live halfway around the globe can somehow feel the love we give to them from our hearts.”

Roger's Interpretation of Lyrics for “Give a Little Bit”

“I was a teenager when I wrote Give a Little Bit.  Even then, the love that I was writing about was a universal love, not just a boy-to-a-girl type of love.   This song is very special to me because it’s simple message is timeless.”

Give a little bit - Give a little bit of your love to me

"I feel that giving a little bit of our love to each other is one of our main purposes in life. We all need love, and we all need to give love to each other."

There's so much that we need to share

Send a smile and show you care

"One of the ways we can share is by showing that we care – showing compassion, comfort, and uplifting and inspiring each other."

Gave a little bit - I gave a little bit of my life for you

So give a little bit - Give a little bit of your time to me

"We can express our love by giving some of our life to others, by giving of our time and self, and receiving others’’ life in return."

See the man with the lonely eyes

Take his hand, you'll be surprised

"Many of us feel lonely.  When you see someone that is lonely, if you show that you care and reach out and come into oneness, it really makes a difference.  It is very surprising the response that you receive – most often it will be love, happiness and gratitude."

Now's the time that we need to share

So find yourself, we're on our way back home

"I believe that one of the most important things in life is to find our self; our heart, our soul, our true purpose for being here.   We head back home by finding our self and sharing our love.  I believe we all want to go back “Home”, that place deep inside our self that is our heart, our true essence, our soul, God, Heaven – that place where we feel everything is right in the world, everything is ok, everything is wonderful, I’m ok and you’re ok.  That place of oneness."

We got to get a feeling

      got to get a feeling

      get a feeling right now

"When I sing about feeling of love I mean – that’s what we’re all looking for and what helps us get back home."

We’ve come a long way

Oh what a long ride

"The long ride is like the journey of life, and the song is about joining together in this journey.  So tonight we can sing; we can find our way back home through opening our hearts and feeling the remembrance of our love."

Listen to "Give A Little Bit"

"So as you’re sitting at home – reach out to whomever you are with and come on, sing out loud, dance, smile and let’s send our love, care, joy and celebration through music!  And let’s really send our love and caring to each other, and send that feeling out to the whole world."
