Sweating with Roger Hodgson- a musical dream vacation

For many years we wanted to visit the Tollwood festival in Munich and on the 21st of July 2010 it finally happened. With Roger Hodgson (he was the legendary lead front man of Supertramp!) a real star came to Munich, and we didn´t want to miss him. About 5,000 others thought the same. The concert started a little late, Roger Hodgson just arrived shortly before the show due to some French flight controllers being on strike. But we´ve got more than reimbursed in the sauna of the Tollwood tent.

Shortly after 8 pm Hodgson entered the stage and started the concert with his song “Take The Long Way Home” and we knew, he´s back in Munich and we are close to him!

There was no big band by his side, only the multi-instrumentalist Aaron McDonald, who played harmonica, melodic and all kinds of wind instruments- specially saxophone- plus keyboard. And we didn´t miss the band at all. Hodgson switched between keyboards and guitar and everyone in the tent, who closed the eyes, have been able to go back in big Supertramp time, while Roger Hodgson sang his unforgotten hits like “Give A Little Bit”, “It´s Raining Again”, “Breakfast In America”, “The Logical Song”, and in the encore he played “Dreamer” and “School”.  He also presented compositions, which were not so well known by everyone in the tent: “Easy Does It”, “Sister Moonshine” and for sure another highlight of this evening “Fool´s Overture”.

His voice sounded like we know and love it. And his charming way while moderating his songs will stay in our minds and memories forever. And to get a comparison, we have tickets for the show on the 20th of September 2010, when the other members of Supertramp (Rick Davies and Co) will be playing in the Olympic hall in Munich.
