Birmingham, England ~ May 26, 2013 ~ Reflection by Toni Amey
While mingling amongst the crowd and talking with other concert goers in Birmingham, I was once again touched by the number of people who described themselves as "life-long" fans and told stories of how Roger's music has "been there" for them when they faced life's biggest challenges.
There were people who were attending their first concert ever. And others who brought people they loved so they could share the "magic" of Roger. Needless to say, nobody went home disappointed.
For the third night in a row, I saw grown men sobbing and young children dancing. Yes, that is the magic of Roger. The magical moment for me? Without a doubt it was when they did "The Meaning". Upon their return from the venue "requested" intermission, the stage was empty and quiet. And then, from somewhere off stage, you hear the first notes of "The Meaning". And then from out of the darkness, setting a scene of contemplation and questioning, comes Roger and the other members of the band building up to this beautiful piece as they come out of the darkness and in to the light. Just magical.
At the end of he night with every seat in the hall empty and every attendee on their feet cheering for more, it was the chatter of amazement that warmed my heart and reminded me why we love this man, his band and the beautiful music they make, so very much. They awaken the "Dreamer" in each of us and remind us that life isn't about the finish, it's about the journey. The love, the laughter and the forgiveness.
