Damme, Germany ~ May 13, 2011 ~ Review by Bardo Metzger

What an amazing evening!

When I first read of this event I asked myself: How can this happen? The great Roger Hodgson gives a concert in a small town in this rural area? I was curious so me and my wife ordered tickets booked a room in the youth hostel in Damme and went to this area only known to me as a station on the Autobahn to Cologne. What we found was an exhibition area on a small airport but with a plaza and a stage included that was very nice and as Roger said himself he liked this area too.

When Roger entered the stage the plaza tent was packed with people of every age from 8 to 80 and the applause was tremendous. At least with the second song Dreamer everybody was singing along with Roger, waving hands or even record sleeves. And it wasn't only the audience like us over 45 years of age and revelling in memories to the soundtrack of our lives, no, many many fathers and mothers brought along their daughters and sons and even they sang Roger hymns. I was very impressed. Not that I didn't expect this but it was such an immediate experience that I never made in concerts in big cities like Hamburg.

So what can I say about the concert? Every concert is different as every audience is different. Roger showed his talent to communicate with people fascinating them. As he told he was very proud to be the first international artist who came to Damme and he hopes that everyone is so happy with him that he won't be the last one. I am sure, everyone was happy!

But not only Roger was brilliant. We saw and heard multi-Instrumentalist Aaron Macdonald at his best. I'm sure no one in the audience really missed a band and enjoyed hearing the songs in a way they were when they were composed. I was very surprised and delighted when Aaron included new elements such as playing the didgeridoo on Time Waits For No One. But this didn't sound funny or strange. This was perfect!

When Roger finished the concert after playing more than two hours with It's Raining Again standing ovations were obligatory.  I still wake up having Rogers songs in my head. I am sure I am not the only one!
