A beautiful wind of nostalgia was blowing yesterday at the Casino Theatre Barriere in Toulouse. Roger Hodgson, former songwriter and owner of most of the songs by Supertramp, activating the memories of 1,200 fans who, of course, have never forgotten him.
Clearly moved by the great welcome they had kept for him, the English man was joking in French with his loyal saxophonist Aaron MacDonald, taking the time enough to relish his peculiar relationship with his audience since 40 years ago.
"You are going to hear this songs as they was the day I have write it”, he said with a smile. The syntax of his sentence was not too good, but his happiness seemed to be immense as the people stood on their feet several times to show him their appreciation with ovations.
With his usual high-pitched voice, Hodgson was linking those everlasting melodies through sober and smart arrangements, showing an unprecedented freshness and enthusiasm.
From a changed "Hide in your shell” to a super-vitamined "Dreamer”, going through an always brilliant "The Logical Song”, Roger Hodgson touched the hearts of his fans with a naturalness, a humour and a talent we knew he had. This Roger is a very nice guy.
