Phoenix Show - Musings from Aaron MacDonald
Roger Hodgson Concert March 28th 2010 @ the J.W. Marriott Resort, Phoenix, Arizona.
I can't get over how beautiful it is here! Driving in from California across the desert was incredible. I saw my first real "Cactus" (lot's of em actually!) just like in the roadrunner cartoons. And being an avid moviegoer,I had dozens of images constantly flowing through my head of Clint Eastwood " Shootin the Bad guy," and wondering if any of the Bushes out there sounded like "Randy Newman" from Amigos, or making sure there wasn't some menacing transport truck grill pasted to my rearview mirror like in "Duel". It's amazing what wanders into your head after a couple hours of being purged by the deserts beauty..................Oh yeah, I gotta play tonight!
Well, we were outside in a manicured courtyard flanked by palm trees, ficus, oleander and other carefully placed tropical wonders. Not to mention a waterfall in behind us! (serene under all circumstances except soundcheck unfortunately) The show was good. I mean Roger and I delivered a pretty good performance considering it's our second show this year. Roger's voice was in fine form, and I managed to work out a few bugs and flubs from the previous show the night before. The feeling was pretty casual but no less enthusiastic. I really like casual settings for our shows because people are more honest with their response, more inclined to pump and cheer, and they did just that.
The show overall I'd say was a great success, and has got me totally primed for the oncoming tour season.
More to come............
