Appreciation Award presentation:
In Hodgson’s own words, “It’s just one of those songs that has a
profound yet beautiful and simple message–’give a little bit’ and
show you care. I know it is giving to others that makes me happy. If
we could all ‘give a little bit’ each day, we would make the world a
better place.”
According to the singer’s manager
Linda Tyler, “Roger Hodgson, cofounder of Supertramp, is the
original singer/songwriter of Give a Little Bit, The Logical
Song, Breakfast in America, Dreamer, Take the Long Way Home, School,
It’s Raining Again, Fool’s Overture, and many more. Many people do
not realize that although Roger and Supertramp’s other cofounder
shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately
with each singing their own respective songs.”
Regarding Hodgson’s current projects, Tyler replied, “You can see Roger live in concert. He is currently on his world tour and selling out shows all over the globe in addition to receiving fantastic review from media and fans alike. Be sure to also visit Roger’s You Tube channel at http:www.YouTube.com/MrRogerHodgson.”
"Give a Little Bit" Scores in Super
Bowl Spot for Coca-Cola
Voted #1 on NFL.com!
In the wake of Super Bowl XLVII, some will remember which commercials were the best as much as the game itself. With this year’s ads prompting emotions ranging from laughter to tears, prime among them was a 30-second spot for Coca-Cola utilizing the song “Give a Little Bit” as its soundtrack – a song written and composed by Roger Hodgson and originally released in 1977 by Supertramp, the iconic rock band he co-founded. This new recording is Hodgson's latest version of his classic hit, which is now available on iTunes. His latest release Classics Live can be found on iTunes as well.
The Coca-Cola “Security Cameras” Super Bowl ad, which combined the sounds of “Give a Little Bit” with images of people engaging in acts of generosity and goodwill as captured by security cameras around the world, was the most watched post-game commercial on the NFL’s own website, with views exceeding a quarter-million. The spot prompted Hodgson to comment, "The images in the ad go well with the meaning of my song. It's just one of those songs that has a profound yet beautiful and simple message – ‘give a little bit’ and show you care. I know it is giving to others that makes me happy. If we could all ‘give a little bit’ each day, we would make the world a better place.”
Hurricane Sandy Relief ~ A Day of Giving
Roger Hodgson donated use of the song to support Hurricane Katrina Relief, Tsunami Relief, and now Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Roger's song, "Give a Little Bit," is being used to help support the Red Cross in conjunction with ABC TV in their fundraising efforts for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Roger is encouraging everyone now is the time to donate as much as you, whatever you can to the Red Cross or help out in any way you can. There are so many ways we can give.
Mentoring the Canadian Idols
"One of the ways to get back Home to our hearts is through the gift of giving back,
giving our love & care to others."
In true keeping with the message of his timeless hit “Give a Little Bit”, Roger Hodgson is giving back. He is always doing service in different forms and on the Canadian tour he’s been doing it in the form of mentoring. After his performance and mentoring on the Canadian Idol show in August, Roger was deeply touched by the young hopefuls and realized the challenges that lay ahead for them. He invited several of them, whose hometowns he was touring in, to come for continued mentoring and to spend the day with him and watch and learn and join him as a special guest on stage. They were all very grateful and learned so much.
Honoring the Big Brothers / Big Sisters organizations
Through his experiences of mentoring, Roger has really been appreciating the value of mentoring, and has also been inviting people from the Big Brothers / Big Sisters organization across Canada to come for free as his guest to many of his shows. He has been honoring and appreciating people who are giving their time to mentor and support our young people who really need it.
So send a Smile and show you care…
“Give a Little Bit” Lyrics Give a little bit Give a little bit of your love to me Give a little bit I'll give a little bit of my love To you There's so much that we need to share Send a smile and show you care
I gave a little bit I gave a little bit of my life for you So give a little bit Give a little bit of your time to me See the man with the lonely eyes Oh take his hand, you'll be surprised
Give a little bit Give a little bit of your love to me I'll give a little bit I’ll give a little bit of my life for you Now's the time that we need to share So find yourself, we're on our way back home
Oh we’re going home Don't you need, don’t you need to get back home Oh yeah, we going back
We got to get a feeling got to get a feeling got to get a feeling
We’ve come a long way Oh what a long ride We’ve come a long way Oh can we sing it tonight
“Never underestimate the difference a smile from the heart can make in this world. “The Tsunami tragedy has brought up a lot of feelings for all of us. One of the ways I have found to help with fear and sadness is to share a smile and show that I care. “When I do this from my heart to people I meet in my life, I feel better, happier and stronger inside. “For those who can, now is the time to reach out and give of our time at one of the local organizations in town. And also know that simply smiling and showing that we care makes a big difference in the world. Lots of kids are showing up and helping in many different ways. “Giving a little bit of our love, sharing a smile, and showing that we care is a basic teaching in life. And I believe even those that live halfway around the globe can somehow feel the love we give to them from our hearts.” | Hurricane Katrina Relief See how kids are continuing to make a difference all over the world.
